Statement about Instrumental use in Worship

Music is a powerful thing. God knows it is. He created it to be. He gives us music as a tool to praise Him.

In the churches of Christ, there is a tradition of using a capella music in our services. As we have sought to follow the Great Commission, we have added to our numbers some people that do not have a church of Christ background. These are both new brothers and sisters, and simply people who want to be part of our body as a Christ-following group of people with a mission to share God’s love.

Many of these people, and honestly, many long time Church of Christ members, feel an enhanced opportunity to praise our God with songs that use instrumental music.

Paul said, “Follow me as I follow Christ”. He also said, “I have become all things to all people that some might be saved”. In this spirit, we will at Lakewood continue to have a tendency toward a capella music, but we will also include instrumental music in some of our assemblies.
